Condensing boilers have a thermal efficiency that reaches 98%, made possible by condensing water vapor in the exhaust gases. Because of this, it’s far more capable than standard boilers. Plus, these models recover heat vaporization that would typically go to waste. As the return water’s temperature decreases, boiler efficiency increases.

Electric Boilers

Fire Tube Boilers

One of the tried and true commercial boiler systems is the fire tube boiler that has flames located in the furnace. In this type of boiler furnace, hot gasses come from the heating source, which is a cylindrical vessel that stores combustion gases, steam, and water in its tubes. Then the gasses travel through circulating tubes through a water-filled chamber to warm the building.

This cost-effective heating solution requires minor maintenance compared to other boiler types. Due to their simplistic design, fire tube boilers are most beneficial for smaller facilities with minimal operating pressure.

Water Tube Boilers

Water tube boilers produce hot water or steam heated externally by fire and stored in its tubes. Simultaneously, the combustion products flow through the tubes. Fire tube and water tube boilers are often compared. If you can’t decide between fire tube vs water tube boilers, keep in mind that water tube boilers can handle more pressure and higher temperatures than fire tube boilers.

Typically, water tube boilers use two or more drums (a mud drum and a steam drum) with bent tubes to enable heat transfer of water between drums. Different designs are categorized by the configuration of the mud drums and steam drums, which are A-type, D-type, O-Type, or flexible tube.
