How Can Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication Improve Your HVAC System?
The most effective commercial heating and cooling systems are often the ones that were custom built for the facilities that house them. If you have a custom-built HVAC system, you need customized solutions to keep it running smoothly. Air Comfort offers custom sheet metal fabrication services that provide customized components for your commercial heating, cooling, and ventilation system. Let’s explore how these services can improve your facility’s HVAC system.
What Does Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication Include?
The term “sheet metal fabrication” is pretty broad, so what types of component and system fabrication does that term include? It can include fabricating small metal parts to fit inside your air conditioning unit, for example. However, it can also include creating entire custom ventilation systems out of sheet metal. This type of fabrication includes custom duct fabrication and custom exhaust system fabrication. Sheet metal fabrication includes making all these different types of parts and systems and more.
What Does the Fabrication Process Look Like?
Our three in-house mechanical engineers oversee our sheet metal fabrication process, and they start the process by reviewing blueprints for the system or component that they need to create. Then they create the final shop drawings they will use to make the system or component. After they complete the drawing, the engineers begin the fabrication process. First, they cut the sheet metal into a large rectangle. Then they bend and form it to make the right shape. Next, they join the ends together to complete the part’s shape. Finally, they finish the component. This step can include applying sealants, coats of paint, powders, or silk screening to the part to protect it or make it more conductive. Once they perform this process for all the sheet metal parts of your component or system, we install it in your commercial HVAC system.
Sheet Metal Fabrication Techniques
Now that we’ve discussed the fabrication process our engineers use, let’s look at some of their fabrication techniques. They may use roll forming, which is a bending process where the welder constantly moves the part through rolls to form its shape. They might roll form an entire sheet of metal, or they may use this technique on metal bars or strips. They can also use tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding to weld a part, and they may use CNC machining, such as a lathe, to spin parts at high speeds to create their proper shapes. They also use laser cutting to ensure that all cutting is neat and precise. All these techniques and more help our engineers custom fabricate the right components for your HVAC system.
